you create a backlink to your website by placing a link to your site on another website, whether it is a forum, blog, social network, or any other kind of website.

A backlink is simply a one way link from another site to your site.

You can use profile backlinks, web 2.0 backlinks, social bookmark , blog commenting, forum signatures etc.

One example is my SIG which is a BACKLINK to a thread on DP. Get the idea?
